Strengthening Farmer Engagement through Farm Radio: A Consultancy on Circular Regenerative Agriculture

Article by AidEnvironment’s Uganda team
In the face of climate change, land degradation, and food insecurity, there is a growing need for practical, farmer-centered approaches that restore ecosystems while enhancing livelihoods. Circular regenerative agriculture offers one such pathway, promoting soil health, recycling resources, and reducing waste while ensuring sustainable food production.
To advance this vision, AidEnvironment has partnered with Farm Radio International to provide specialized consultancy services aimed at scaling up knowledge and the adoption of circular regenerative practices among farming communities. The initiative focuses on three core areas: capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and farmer-driven learning.
1.Training Broadcasters for Impact
Radio remains one of the most accessible and trusted channels for rural farmers across Africa. Through this consultancy, radio broadcasters were trained not only on the technical aspects of circular regenerative agriculture but also on effective communication strategies. This includes simplifying complex agricultural concepts, using storytelling, integrating local knowledge, and fostering interactive programming that encourages farmers to share experiences and innovations.
2.Engaging Farmers and Stakeholders
The consultancy goes beyond broadcasting by creating spaces for dialogue among farmers, community leaders, extension workers, policymakers, and private sector players. This multi-stakeholder engagement ensures that the promotion of circular regenerative agriculture is context-specific, inclusive, and sustainable. By aligning local practices with broader environmental and market opportunities, farmers are better positioned to adopt methods that build resilience and profitability.
3. Promoting Circular Regenerative Practices
Topics covered through training and radio engagement included soil regeneration, composting, agroforestry, integrated pest management, water conservation, and waste recycling. By emphasizing the circular use of resources, farmers learn to turn agricultural by-products into valuable inputs, reducing costs and dependence on external inputs while contributing to climate adaptation.
Looking Ahead
This consultancy with Farm Radio International demonstrates the power of combining communication, capacity building, and stakeholder collaboration in advancing sustainable agriculture. By equipping broadcasters with the right tools and engaging stakeholders meaningfully, we are creating an enabling environment where farmers can confidently adopt practices that restore ecosystems, strengthen food systems, and secure future generations.
