AidEnvironment launches second supply chain transparency report featuring largest commodity companies (RDM 2)

In April 2022, AidEnvironment published its second Real-time Deforestation Monitoring (RDM) report that sheds light on 13,930 hectares of deforestation and fire events linked to soy traders and meatpackers in the Amazon and Cerrado biomes in Brazil.

The report features eight cases linking recent deforestation to soy traders’ and beef processors’ supply chains. The eight cases are all in the Amazon and Cerrado biomes in the states of Rondônia, Mato Grosso, Bahia and Piauí. The total deforestation reported by the eight cases is 13,930 hectares, which are linked to 229 fire alerts. In varying levels of certainty, the cases are linked to the largest soy and cattle companies, including Amaggi, ALZ Grãos, Bunge, Cargill, Cofco, LDC, JBS and Marfrig.

About RDM Reports

The RDM reports will be published every two months and are part of the “Euro-finance and Deforestation” project with support from EU Life Program.

RDM reports aim to:

• create awareness on recent deforestation and fire events linked to global commodities’ supply chains;
• engage commodity producers and traders on real-time deforestation events, and urge them to respond — especially those with commitments to halt deforestation in their supply chains;
• support stakeholders in the financial sector and civil society with granular data needed in their due diligence and engagement with companies;
• increase transparency in commodity sectors, particularly on companies’ no-deforestation commitments and how this is implemented on the ground.
