Sustainability Analysis: PT Permata Sawit Mandiri

PT Permata Sawit Mandiri is an oil palm plantation company that has been frequently featured in Chain Reaction Research (CRR)’s top 10 deforesters in the palm oil sector. Research suggests that the plantation company most likely supplies to the ‘leakage’ market, implying that pressure to adhere to NDPE supply chain policies was not working.

While PT PSM has always been excluded from NDPE supply chains, this analysis finds that this particular concession should have contained a wide area of orangutan habitat.

PT Permata Sawit Mandiri used to work with Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry to conserve biodiversity within the concession. The outcomes of the work remain unclear as deforestation continues to be detected within the concession.
