Internship Opportunity: sustainable agriculture & inclusive value chains (0.8-1 FTE)
What does the internship entail?
We are looking for an intern, who can provide overall support to AidEnvironment’s team, including research, data analysis, and stakeholder coordination. The internship combines analytical work (data, GIS, assessments) with practical project support in ongoing field programmes. This is a dynamic role, which will be shaped by your qualifications and preferences. In this position, you can contribute to and gain experience on multiple projects.
You are expected to work mainly on our coffee and agroforestry projects in East Africa, where AidEnvironment collaborates closely with smallholder producers, companies, NGOs and government partners to facilitate sustainable, productive landscapes. For these projects, we collaborate closely with our team in East Africa and with local and international partners.
Work topics and tasks for the intern may include the following:
- Supporting the implementation and monitoring of regenerative agriculture practices (e.g. bio-inputs, soil and water conservation, agroforestry systems)
- Assisting in the development and use of farmer monitoring systems and dashboards (e.g. training tracking, adoption monitoring, basic data analysis)
- Conducting data analysis to support project insights (e.g. farmer data, production data, environmental indicators)
- Supporting GIS and spatial analysis (e.g. mapping project areas, land use, environmental indicators such as vegetation or water availability)
- Contributing to value chain and landscape assessments (e.g. stakeholder mapping, bottleneck analysis, living income assessments)
- Preparing presentations, visuals, and short reports for internal use and for external stakeholders (e.g. funders, partners)
- Supporting cross-project learning and knowledge development (e.g. synthesizing lessons from different programmes and regions)
Specific tasks will be tailored to the intern’s profile, interests, and ongoing project needs.
Who is an ideal candidate?
We are looking for a Master’s student with a background in development studies, environmental sciences, agriculture, or related fields. The ideal candidate is motivated to work on topics such as regenerative agriculture, living incomes, sustainable landscapes, and inclusive value chains.
This learning opportunity can serve as your final internship of your Master’s degree or link to your thesis (provided the topic matches the AE team’s work that you will be supporting).
Key requirements
- You are in the final stage of your Master’s degree with relevant experience (e.g. agriculture, development etc.)
- You have strong organization skills
- You are able to work independently and efficiently
- You are able to communicate proficiently in English
- You possess additional skills that are an advantage: GIS skills, experience in East Africa, good communication skills
What can AidEnvironment offer?
The intern will be a member of a highly motivated team in an international organization working for a sustainable future. AidEnvironment will provide a stimulating work environment with sufficient opportunities for learning and networking.
The timeline of this learning opportunity is to be discussed. Preferably the candidate will start as soon as possible. The duration of the internship is four months, on a full-time basis (36 hours). The intern will receive compensation of 750 Euro per month and travel cost reimbursement. The position is open to applicants of all nationalities, but we will only consider candidates with a work and residency permit for the Netherlands.
