Compliance Checker: Coffee Cases in Brazil’s Rondonia

This report focuses on the coffee risk profile of Brazil’s Amazon state Rondônia, the 5th largest coffee producing state in the country and 2nd largest producer of robusta coffee. The report maps Rondônia’s main coffee sourcing areas, its link to deforestation hotspots, and the location of assets and infrastructure linked to robusta coffee imports into the EU market. Although limited recent deforestation linked to coffee in Rondônia was found, small-scale forest clearing linked to coffee was present in a few municipalities, raising concerns amid growing Robusta exports and weakening state-level protections.
A key element of the report are the six case studies showcasing the potential linkages of coffee farms with likely forest clearing since the EUDR cut-off date with five large coffee exporting companies (BlendCoffee, LDC, NKG, Olam, and Sucafina). The cases were shared with the companies for further engagement in July 2025 and their replies (if available) have been included in the report.
This report, the second of a series of deforestation risk profiles developed in collaboration with Coffee Watch, will serve as input for AidEnvironment’s upcoming Compliance Checker, an interactive dashboard featuring case studies on deforestation, legal, and human rights risks.
